Canada’s First Ever Shopping Search Engine Signs 55 Retailers in First Two Months

Sept. 13, 2005, Calgary – Shoptoit.ca today announced that it has signed search engine advertising contracts with 55 Retailers since launching Canada’s only shopping search engine on July 1st 2005. shoptoit.ca now offers consumers access to over 212,000 products and 125 Canada retailers – all of whom deliver goods from Canada to Canadians. shoptoit.ca was created for Canadian consumers frustrated with online shopping due to excessive shipping costs, and tariff and duty complications from retailers outside Canada.

Recent retailers signed include: Sony Canada, SportMart, The Bay, La Senza, Mountain Equipment Co-Op, Apple Canada, Sears Canada, and Lush. Consumers who visit www.shoptoit.ca are able to conduct searches while comparing products and product specifications from all 125 retailers.

Shoptoit.ca employs a proven pay-per-click revenue model used by traditional search engines like Google and Yahoo. Retailers list products and product specifications on shoptoit.ca’s site and when web visitors are ready to buy they click through to the ‘buy now’ area of the retailer’s website. shoptoit.ca delivers qualified sales leads right to a retailer’s online cashier. A referral fee is charged only when consumers click through to view products on the retailers’ websites. Click through charges vary based on the profitability and popularity of the product category.
